Exclusive: Daniel Farrands Talks The Haunting on Long Island: The Amityville Murders

The Haunting on Long Island: The Amityville MurdersWe cannot even begin to tell you how stoked we are that Daniel Farrands (Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy, The Haunting in Connecticut, Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers) is readying The Haunting on Long Island: The Amityville Murders for CineTel Films.

Not only is Farrands a director with a keen eye for storytelling and detail, he’s also an Amityville historian; and believe us when we tell you there are few people on earth as well versed in the Amityville saga as he. Recently we caught up with Farrands to get the scoop on the new flick…

I’m excited to tell a unique story that’s not another reboot or reimagining of The Amityville Horror — and not connected to the Lutz haunting, demonic dollhouses, possessed mirrors, or cursed theaters in any way,” Farrands tells us, adding, “This story focuses on the possible events in the days leading to the DeFeo family mass murders and the baffling mysteries that surround the case to this day.”

He also says, “It’s not a documentary or a docu-drama. It’s a domestic thriller with supernatural elements that portrays the DeFeo family as real human beings caught up in a series of events that ultimately led to their tragic demise — and unwittingly spawned a modern legend.

Farrands is set to direct from his own screenplay with production starting this summer. No other details are available, but we do have the plot crunch for you!

Synopsis:
On the night of November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr., took a high-powered rifle and murdered his entire family as they slept. At his trial DeFeo claimed that “voices” in the house commanded him to kill.

Thirteen months later the Lutz family bought the house and stayed only 28 days before fleeing in terror. Their nightmarish ordeal shocked the world in The Amityville Horror. The Lutzes may have escaped from Amityville with their lives … but the DeFeos weren’t so lucky. This is their story.
